Biography

Since January 2019, Mr. Deutsch has served as Chairman of Pelican Ventures, an insurance-focused investment firm, and currently serves as a board member of Ariel Re since November 2020, Mosaic Insurance Holdings Limited since February 2021, and as Chairman of Tango Specialty Insurance Services since May 2021. Mr. Deutsch served on the board of IQUW Holdings Bermuda Limited (now called Starr Bermuda Holdings Limited) from February 2021 to July 2026. In addition, he continues to serve on the board of IQUW Re Bermuda Limited since February 2021 and joined the board of Starr Insurance & Reinsurance Limited in August 2026. From May 2018 to December 2020, Mr. Deutsch served as a Managing Director at GE Capital, where he led efforts to reduce risk in long-term care and structured settlement annuity portfolios. From July 2014 to December 2017, he served as Chief Strategy Officer of Hamilton Insurance Group, a global insurance and reinsurance company, and concurrently served as Chief Executive Officer of Hamilton USA from October 2015 to October 2016. Prior to Hamilton Insurance Group, Mr. Deutsch served as Chief Executive Officer of Ironshore Inc., a Bermuda-based specialty insurance company, from January 2007 to March 2009. Earlier in his career, Mr. Deutsch served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of CNA Financial Corporation (NYSE: CNA), a leading commercial insurance company, from August 1999 to October 2004. Prior to CNA, he served as President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Actuary of Executive Risk Inc., a specialty insurance company, from June 1987 to July 1999. Mr. Deutsch began his career as a Senior Manager at Ernst & Young and subsequently served as a Vice President at Swiss Re. Mr. Deutsch holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, with a concentration in Insurance and Actuarial Science. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a past Associate of the Society of Actuaries.
